EFLChampionship covers the second tier of English football, and only the second tier. The live table, every fixture and result, all twenty-four clubs, their grounds, squads and head coaches, plus the head-to-head record for every pairing that has met in the division since 1993/94.
Why one division
This is not an under-covered division. It is one of the best-attended leagues in Europe and it gets plenty of column inches. What it does not get is anyone covering all of it. Generalist sites follow whichever three or four clubs are having the interesting season, and the rest appear as a results line under the Premier League coverage that pays the bills.
A twenty-four club league played over forty-six matches is decided in the middle of the table as much as the top of it, and it takes the whole division to make sense of any of it: the promotion and play-off permutations worked out properly rather than estimated, the loan market that actually builds these squads, the attendance figures, and the head-to-head record of every pairing back to 1993/94. Covering one division is the only way to do that.
It also means we can be honest about what we have. We are not going to pad a match report with Premier League comparisons, and we are not going to quote expected-goals figures for fixtures where nobody reliably measures them.
Where the data comes from
Historical results, half-time scores and match statistics back to 1993/94 come from Football-Data.co.uk's free CSV archive. The current season, fixtures, results, the official table, lineups, match events, squads and head coaches, comes from API-Football. Player, manager and referee photographs and reference biographies come from Wikipedia, re-hosted by us and rewritten in our own words. Ground coordinates come from OpenStreetMap.
Everything is synced to our own database and served from there. No user-facing page makes a live third-party API call, which is why the site stays up when a data provider does not.
One deliberate gap: we do not publish expected-goals numbers for this division. No free source covers it reliably, and we would rather show shots, corners and cards that we can stand behind than a metric we cannot.
Editorial standards
Articles carry a named byline and are written from sourced reporting. We never copy sentences from another publication. Transfer stories are attributed to whoever reported them and described as rumour until a club confirms them, we will not present a report as a completed deal. We correct factual errors promptly; if you spot one, please tell us.
Independence
EFLChampionship.co.uk is an independent publication. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or associated with the English Football League, any competition sponsor, or any club covered on this site. “EFL” and “EFL Championship” are trade marks of The Football League Limited. Club and competition names are used descriptively, for identification only, and our own coverage refers to the division as the Championship or the second tier.
