A Wolverhampton Wanderers supporter who has raised more than £470,000 for charity over eight years is planning his most ambitious challenge yet: a 150-mile walk around the Molineux Stadium to mark the club's 150th anniversary.
The challenge
Manny Singh Kang has named the event "Manny's Molineux 150", a deliberate nod to the Championship club's founding year of 1877. He will spend 60 continuous hours circling the ground on Waterloo Road between 11 and 13 March next year, covering the full 150 miles on foot. Members of the public are invited to join him at any point during the walk.
All proceeds will go to Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity. Kang has been raising money for the organisation for eight years, after researching the condition and being moved by the scale of its impact: roughly one million people in the United Kingdom currently live with dementia.
"Some of you ask, 'Is this good for your health? Are you going to be okay?'" he said, announcing the challenge on his social media platforms. "What about the health of the one million people that live with [dementia]? If I have to sacrifice a little bit of me to help them, then that sacrifice is worth paying, that comes from my faith."
A record of putting the miles in
Kang's previous fundraising feats give some indication of what he is capable of. His last challenge saw him walk from Wolverhampton to London without sleep across three days before taking part in the London Marathon. Before that he cycled on an exercise bike for 24 hours and ran 50 miles alongside 50 schools over two days.
His commitment has been recognised beyond the charity world: he was awarded an MBE for his work in rail safety and charity. He works for Network Rail.
The cumulative total of more than £470,000 raised across his various efforts is striking. No press-release language is needed here; the figure speaks for itself, and it has been built up through physical challenges rather than sponsored gala dinners.
What it means for Wolves supporters
The 150th anniversary of Wolverhampton Wanderers is a genuine landmark for a club with deep roots in the West Midlands. Founded in 1877, the club has spent periods across the top four tiers of English football and is, this season, competing in the Championship. Supporters marking that history in ways that go beyond matchday rituals are a reminder that a football club belongs, in some meaningful sense, to the people who live around it.
Kang's choice of the Molineux as the setting for his walk rather than a neutral location underlines that connection. He is not simply using the club's name to attract attention; the stadium itself becomes the course.
Anyone wishing to join the walk on any of the three days in March is welcome to do so, according to Kang's announcement. No entry fee is mentioned; donations to Dementia UK are the point.
If the event proceeds as planned, it will sit alongside a broader programme of 150th-anniversary activity that the club itself is expected to mark during the season. Whether Kang's total climbs significantly beyond his existing £470,000 fundraising record will depend partly on how many people turn up to walk a few laps alongside him.
