Wrexham are closing in on two significant additions before the summer transfer deadline, with wing-back Issa Kabore set to make his loan move from Manchester City permanent and left-back Jacques Ekomie reported to be on the verge of joining from French side Angers, according to BBC Sport.

Kabore set for permanent Racecourse switch

The 25-year-old Burkina Faso international spent the second half of last season as a near-ever-present in Phil Parkinson's side after arriving on transfer deadline day in September. Kabore registered eight Championship assists across the campaign, more than any other Wrexham player, and made a memorable debut when a pair of assists helped the Red Dragons come from behind to beat Norwich City 3-2 at Carrow Road.

A hamstring injury sustained on international duty in November curtailed his first half of the season, but Kabore returned to fitness in time for the Africa Cup of Nations and then featured prominently for Wrexham through the run-in. Having accumulated seven loan moves away from the Etihad Stadium without a single senior appearance for City, the 55-cap international is now understood to be on the cusp of a permanent exit, with Wrexham the destination.

Kabore initially joined Manchester City from Belgian club Mechelen in 2020. Loan spells at Mechelen, Troyes, Marseille, Luton Town, Benfica and Werder Bremen followed before he arrived in north Wales. Ekomie provides left-back cover

The second deal centres on Ekomie, a 23-year-old Gabon international who enters the final year of his contract at Angers. The left-back started his career at Bordeaux before moving to the French top flight with Angers in the summer of 2024. He made 32 appearances in all competitions for the club in 2025-26, with 25 of those coming as starts in Ligue 1.

BBC Sport reports that Ekomie attracted interest from Championship rivals and German side Hamburg before Wrexham moved to the front of the queue. The arrival would provide meaningful competition and cover on the left flank, where Parkinson has been forced to deploy midfielder George Thomason as a makeshift wing-back.

That workaround has been necessary because New Zealand international Liberato Cacace, signed from Italian side Empoli in the summer of 2025, has struggled badly with injuries since moving to the Racecourse Ground. Cacace started only eight of Wrexham's 46 Championship games last season and has missed all three of the club's matches so far this term, despite having two years remaining on his contract.

A window that has tested patience

Speaking ahead of Wrexham's 1-1 draw at home to Watford, Parkinson acknowledged the window had been "difficult" with several deals falling through. In his post-match press conference, the manager offered little assurance, saying there were "no guarantees" of further incomings before the 23:00 BST deadline on 1 September.

Should both Kabore and Ekomie complete their moves, they would join Danny Imray, Anthony Patterson and Ben Whiteman in arriving at the Racecourse Ground this summer, giving Wrexham five additions in what will have been a productive, if frustrating, window.

Parkinson's men face Birmingham City at home on Friday night (20:00 BST) and will hope to have the squad picture clearer by then. Wrexham are also understood to be monitoring their midfield and forward options with the deadline approaching, according to the report.
